The Chromatic Cubes of Park Byung-Hoon | Exhibition Statement
Park Byung-Hoon’s artistic practice centers on a naturally flowing, intuitive, and deeply expressive language of color. In his works, color unfolds as effortlessly as breathing or singing—at times expansive, at times condensed—guiding viewers into a realm that lies between perception and the mysterious inner world. From subdued achromatic tones such as gray and black to richly layered and energetic hues, he moves freely through a vast chromatic space, revealing a mature and confident sensitivity to color.
The sense of mystery emanating from these works does not arise from deliberate technique or formal manipulation, but rather from a process that feels co-created with nature and the universe. His creative approach avoids excessive refinement, allowing the works to take shape gradually by following natural rhythms. This attitude imbues Park Byung-Hoon’s work with a quiet yet profound depth.
Like the changing of the seasons, the artist’s creative journey involves restraint and trials. It is precisely through these processes that his works grow increasingly pure and refined. The “nature and mystery” present in Park Byung-Hoon’s works signify that he has entered a state of harmonious resonance with the world.
Looking ahead, he may continue to encounter new possibilities and unknowns within unpolished forms—whether in a raw gemstone or a seemingly colorless acrylic cube. Art, after all, is only one part of life, continually guiding him toward a broader exploration of the world.
